Execution and the Importance of Solid Project Management

October 26, 2009

Here at Vision, success means meeting the ever-changing, ever-rising expectations and demands of the market and our clients, as well as those of our consultants.  We have noticed and believe that success can almost always be traced back to sound job responsibility and project execution.

This understanding has led Vision to focus considerable time and energy on understanding the methods and practices that promote sound execution and that ultimately lead to success.  We have found that one clear factor that unquestionably drives this is solid project management.   The most successful team members and teams are those who understand the importance of effective project management and who continually strive to execute and improve in this area.

As a result Vision promotes and provides project management training and education for employees at all levels.  Countless options exist out in the marketplace and much depends on what an individual needs, whether be in pursuit of PMI Certification or simply to gain new skills.

We recently discovered one terrific option for someone who may be just beginning or wanting to get into project management - PMI’s Project Management Fundamentals Course.  Recently several Vision employees participated in this intensive program, which provided great practical experience by applying the fundamentals of project management and feedback from those that took the course was very positive.  At the conclusion of the course, participants created a project life cycle, a statement of work, a work breakdown structure, a schedule, a budget and a risk management plan. Students worked together in groups over a five-week period to develop a project plan for a real project and were encouraged to bring current projects to the class.  Participants also learned more about:

  • Leadership
  • People management (customers, suppliers, functional managers and project team)
  • Effective Communication (verbal and written)
  • Influencing
  • Negotiation
  • Conflict Management
  • Planning
  • Estimating
  • Problem solving
  • Creative thinking
  • Time Management

Vision highly recommends this course for anyone that is looking to enhance their value and performance, or as a starting point for a project management career.  For more information on this particular class or other ways you can improve through education please contact your Vision Service Delivery Manager.
