Senior Usability/UI Designer
About the position
Vision technology Services has an immediate need for a Usability/UI Design Engineer.
Responsibilities:
Working closely with Business Analysts, Developers, and other designers to define and design the interfaces for Web Applications based on technical constraints, existing architecture, and requested functionality.
Responsible for the identifying navigation paradigms, page flows and data layouts, ensuring that all the designs have a consistent look & feel, follow best practices, and are accessible (e.g. Section 508 compliant).
Creating and following design guidelines, defining the user interface for new and existing applications and features, developing storyboards, mockups, and/or prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas, and gauging the usability of new and existing applications.
Represent the needs of the user throughout discovery, design, and development; balances business needs and technical feasibility.
Responsible for carrying projects from mock up to launch. This individual may also work independently to complete some projects.
Follows company design standards which include layout rules, typography annotations, etc. Contributes to the evolution of standards and guidelines with other designers throughout the organization.
Representative as company's user experience leader and subject matter expert in project/team discussions. This includes leading design discussions and brainstorming sessions.
Advise the business about user interface design and usability best practices, trends, and accessibility standards while making recommendations that best support the achievement of business objectives.
Accomplishes department and organization missions by completing related tasks as needed and assigned.
Requirements:
7+ years experience serving as a User Interface Designer or Usability Engineer.
3+ years experience serving in a Team Lead role, solving complex problems, prioritizing conflicting demands, and meeting expected deadlines.
Bachelors Degree in human factors, web design, graphic design, or related is preferred but we will consider candidates with equivalent work experience and strong portfolio of work.
An ability to translate business and technical requirements into design and UE "magic."
Ability to write functional specifications for interface designs and proposals.
Experience programming in HTML/CSS and the ability to deliver prototypes and mockups using the technologies in which the design will ultimately be used.
An understanding of web technology and current trends - the what, why, when and how of AJAX, HTML5, Flash, browsers, etc.
Experience in prototyping, mockup and information/page flow tools such as Visio, Balsamiq, Axure, Fireworks, etc.
Ability to communicate with product owners, developers, testers, clients and end-users in a manner that helps continuously enhance the overall usability of the applications.
Excellent time management including the prioritization of tasks and controlling scope.
Excellent written/oral communication skills and experience communicating directly with customers throughout the entire lifecycle of a project.
The ability to demonstrate work experience by providing examples and samples of work.
